Camp NaNoWriMo

2017 Camp NaNoWriMo April 1-7

2017CampParticipantHello dragonlings!

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything, and if you have been following me, you might notice my website has changed… a lot. I’ll do another blog post later about all that, but for now, let’s talk about Camp NaNoWriMo and what I’m working on.

So, it’s April, which means it’s time for the first of two Camp NaNoWriMo months. The next one will be in July, and then there will be the normal NaNoWriMo event in November.

It’s been a really good week for me. I had decided back in March that I wanted to write my dragon shifter paranormal romance series for this year’s Camp. Then, the day before Camp was to start, my brain said, “Nope. You’re going to work on your fantasy world series, Altera.”

With everything that’s going on with the Shifters & Mages series, I decided that this wasn’t a bad idea and started working on it. Then, the day Camp started, I had a dream that would work as a brand new story idea within the world, and I started working on it.

For Camp this year, I’m aiming for 50,000 (50K) words. I’ll be switching between a couple different projects for this Camp, like usual. All the projects I’m counting towards this will be from the Altera series. There are other projects I’ll be working on this month as well, but I will not be adding them to my Camp word counts.

Currently, I am switching between the first novel in the Altera series, called Lost Heir. I absolutely ADORE the characters from that novel. It’s already been written, but as I developed more about the world, I knew it would need to be re-written. That’s the main one I’m working on, but I’m also alternating to Bargain with a King, the second novel in the series.

That said, the day Camp started, another idea came to me in a dream, and that’s the one I’m currently working on. I don’t know where in the Altera timeline it falls, but I know it will be an Altera work. Currently, I’m about 20K into that project, and it has no title as of this moment, but it’s looking like it will be a novella rather than a full-length novel, as I don’t have much more to do before the first draft is complete, which is exciting. Like Lost Heir, it will need a lot of editing, but I’ve found editing is easier than writing the first draft, so that’s fine with me.

Here are my stats for this month’s Camp right now:

I have not written yet today, but I’m only supposed to be at 13,333 before today’s over with and I’m well above that, so I don’t technically have to write, but… I’m going to write something… I just haven’t decided what. I may try to finish up one of the many other non-Camp projects I’m working on.

  • Endless Starry Nights – 3 chapters until completion
  • Untitled dragon shifter prequel novella – 3 chapters until completion

How are you all working on for Camp NaNoWriMo this year, if you’re participating? If you’re not, what are you working on? What are your goals for the projects you have started?
